About Katherine
Hi, I’m Katherine Ward—wife, mama of three (and two precious babies in heaven), and a homebirth midwife serving families across Central Iowa. I believe birth is sacred, women are strong, and that God’s design for pregnancy and birth is both beautiful and wise. My calling is to walk with women through one of life’s most transformative journeys— the journey into motherhood. I offer care that is personal, prayerful, and rooted in mutual trust.
I was born and raised in the Des Moines area. I fell in love with birth as a young girl while watching “A Baby Story” on TLC. I became a doula right out of high school and have been attending births ever since.
Areas of Special Passion
While I love every stage of the childbearing journey, a few areas are especially close to my heart:
Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss Care
Having personally experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage, I offer gentle, Christ-centered support for families navigating loss. You are not alone.
Nutrition, Lifestyle, & Well-Woman Care from Preconception into Motherhood
I’m passionate about helping women feel strong, nourished, and informed through realistic, whole-body wellness—before, during, and after pregnancy.
Lactation Support
Breastfeeding can be beautiful—and challenging. I offer education and hands-on help to support a strong start and troubleshoot common concerns.
My Philosophy
As a midwife, I believe:
Birth is not a medical event—it's a sacred, physiological process.
Women deserve to be seen, heard, and trusted.
Midwifery care should be holistic, evidence-based, and deeply personal.
God is the author of life—and His presence belongs in the birth space.
My care is relationship-driven. I want to know you, walk with you, and support you with both skill and soul.
Beyond Midwifery
When I’m not attending births or supporting mamas, I’m soaking up time with my husband and kids, making music, moving my body, or refilling my cup with quiet moments and good books.
